CLX and Mblox, Top 5 in the ROCCO Vendor Performance – Global A2P SMS 2016

In a report announced this week CLX and Mblox are in the top 5 for a second year in a row. The annual survey and report by ROCCO (Roaming Consulting Company, Ltd) ranks global vendors who provide A2P SMS Messaging into tiers based on the score each achieved. The ROCCO report compiled responses from 192 individuals who represented 260 MNOs (Mobile Network Operators) from 188 countries.

32 vendors were identified in the report, categorized into 3 tiers. Tier determination and overall ranking are based on the rating of performance and leadership KPIs. Both CLX and Mblox are categorized as tier 1 vendors this year based on the results collected, CLX was the overall leading vendor in 2015 and spoiler alert, they retained the #1 position in 2016.

The purpose of the annual report is to serve as a resource, tabulating ratings and feedback from the global community who currently use these A2P SMS Messaging vendors and create a community to exchange information to those looking for a vendor.

Here are some highlights we can share from the ROCCO report.

The Top 5 Criteria for Selecting a Vendor for MNOs are:

To assist MNOs, ROCCO has taken qualitative brand messages and quantified them through their survey. They examined the following performance KPIs –

  • Reliability

  • Customer Service

  • Technical Expertise

  • Reputation

  • Value for Money

  • Understanding of Interconnect

  • Offers Excellent Value Added Services (VAS)

  • Quality of Service

  • Transparency

  • Flexibility

  • Implementation Process

  • Uptime Performance

  • Client Support

  • Global Reach

  • Route

  • Monitoring and Management

  • Technical Support

  • Security

  • Reporting

  • Impact on existing messaging

  • Support for eliminating grey routes

  • Direct connections

  • Pricing model

  • Monetisation of A2P traffic

  • The connectivity to the vendor was easy from start to finish

  • I was fully informed of the pros and cons of joining the vendor solution before I signed the contract

  • The account management/sales team are fully aligned with their operational/technical teams

  • The vendor meets their deadlines

The performance KPIs were measured on a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 is the lowest and 5 the highest. Based on the criteria above, CLX and Mblox received the following ratings for each KPI as follows:

The survey went on to compare the following leadership KPIs:

The leadership KPIs were measured on the same 5 point scale, where 1 is the lowest and 5 the highest. Based on the criteria above, CLX and Mblox received the following ratings for each KPI as follows:

The ROCCO Vendor Performance report serves as a resource for MNOs so they may understand how vendors in the A2P messaging space compare with one another.
