The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term used to describe ‘things’ ranging from household items like fridges, toothbrushes, lightbulbs, utility meters to ‘things’ like industrial containers or cars – all of which are capable of carrying a SIM card to store and relay data back to a central point.

For example, a utility meter might have a SIM installed that automatically relays meter readings or usage stats back to the utility company, to ensure that accurate records are kept and that customers are correctly billed.
